This project involves expansion of an existing water filtration plant supplying Southern California with drinking water. The expansion will increase the plant’s capacity by 110 million gallons of water per day (from 520 mgd to 630 mgd). Construction includes sitework, construction of buildings and water treatment structures (flocculation basin, sedimentation basin, conventional filtration), a new potable water pumping station, new utilities, modifications of existing utilities, new electrical switchgear facility and electrical ductbanks.
An important milestone was the January, 2006 full shutdown of the plant during an unusually hot period to tie-in the new facilities to the existing plant and pipeline. A seven-day window was included for the work; Filanc completed the work in four days.
